Abstract
Patients with terminal illness often experience spiritual distress, so spiritual care is necessary in order to increase hope and quality of life and die peacefully. Spiritual care involves the need for meaning in life, self-esteem, self-expression and support to strengthen faith through prayer. The spiritual care provided by nurses specifically does not only discuss religion but also how an individual can relate to other people, the environment or nature and also with God. The purpose of this study was to explore the experience of nurses in fulfilling spiritual care in patients with terminal illnesses. The method used in this study is a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach and data collection techniques conducted through in-depth interviews with 7 participants. The data were processed using thematic analysis methods. There are three main themes and eleven sub-themes, namely: 1) the fulfillment of spiritual care is provided in various ways (The sub-themes of nurses act as facilitators and educators. Nurses collaborate with pastoral care to provide prayer services and administer the sacrament of holy oil. Present religious leaders. Communion services are given to patients are catholic. Standard operational procedures in fulfilling spiritual care), 2) spiritual care is part of caring (Sub-theme of the influence of fulfilling spiritual care in patients with terminal illness which consists of being cheerful, returning home, humanizing humans until the end of life or dying peacefully Caring attitude is the basic principle of nurses in fulfilling spiritual care. External barriers in applying caring to patients in fulfilling spiritual care. Internal barriers in applying caring to patients in fulfilling spiritual care. 3) Spiritual care is an integral part of caring. Treatment with the sub-theme of spiritual care is a must and needs to be done for patients with terminal illnesses and spiritual services are provided holistically.
