Abstract

Newborns have a mechanism that regulates the suboptimal body temperature, so it's susceptible to a drastic decrease in body temperature. The Kangaroo Mother Care is a simple treatment by mother to care for newborn's uses the body temperature to warm the body of baby. The purpose of this study was to stabilize and increase the body temperature of newborns after deliver. This study was pre-experimental with one group pre-test-post-test design to fifteen normal newborns which aged one to six hours after birth. Sampling was used a NonProbability technique with consecutive method and spent one hour Kangaroo Mother Care intervention. The body temperature of baby was measured by using a thermometer and applied before and after the Kangaroo Mother Care. Observation result was analyzed by applying the Wilcoxon test with significance level α = 0.05. Mean of body temperature before intervention was 36,533 and after intervention was 36,827. The result of Wilcoxon test was found a significant value ρ = 0.001. This showed that there was an effect of Kangaroo Mother Care Method toward the Body Temperature of Newborns at Sitti Khadijah I Muhammadiyah Hospital of Makassar.
